Easy Small Space Drop Zone

See how we made a scrappy little corner into a working school drop zone!

The spaces just inside front and back entries of our homes can be magnets for clutter! I know mine was. We have a very small hallway just off the door to our garage that serves as a universal dumping ground for school items, shoes and coats among other things. I needed a better storage solution to keep the mess at bay and accommodate a very tight corner.

Here’s a peek at the before so you can see what I’m talking about…

The wall measures a little over 3 ft wide with next to no depth because of the garage door. I knew I wanted to utilize the wall vertically and wanted it to be as simple and functional as possible. Enter my favorite way to organize: with a pegboard!

I found the wooden boards on Etsy and ordered 2 to stack on top of each other to make use of the floor-to-ceiling space. Because I wanted to have a shoe storage solution, I ordered more pegs for plenty of hanging options and used black shower hooks for shoes with a heel loop.

It was also important that the kids actually use this, so I placed certain items like their back packs and masks within easy reach for a quick and seamless in and out during the morning rush.

This little project was ridiculously easy to install and really has really helped to calm my mess-adverse brain. Cleanish house, happy mom!

If you want to give this a go in your own home, I’ve got the sources rounded up below.
