New project reveal: A Parisienne-Inspired Cloffice

Once a sad, hodgepodge & unused closet, keep scrolling to see how we turned this little space into a colorful creative craft cloffice inspired by Paris!

The Concept

So it may come to no surprise that I’m a fan of the show Emily In Paris on Netflix, specifically all the eye candy in that series! The fashion, the colors, the chic sophistication, the interiors…its all so good and inspiring, especially from a design perspective. So I took my love of that French aesthetic and combined it with a few Nordic influences to create this little working nook to house all of my design & crafting supplies. The overall vibe is Paris meets Copenhagen with pastels!
Let’s get into this!

The Before

If you are like me, then you have at least one closet in your home that is a hot, hot mess. I’m talking like a dumping zone to ‘store’ things and stash away your crap from the early 2000’s….which perfectly describes the state of this little closet before I gave her a Parisienne glow up. She needed some love and a good clean and that’s where I started!

The Construction

I don’t know if you can tell by the before pictures, but there is a popcorn ceiling in this space! Ugh!! The dreaded….
So of course that had to go and I decided to do it myself and learn on the job.! The removal wasn’t that bad although we had a small space to work with and I think that is why I say that. It’s so freaking messy!! If you are curious, here is the basic breakdown on how we removed the popcorn:
1. Using a spray bottle filled with water, wet the area and wait 15 minutes for the texture to soften.
2. Scrape the texture away in small sections at a time, being careful not to dig in too hard and cause any damage to the dry wall.
3. Mud/putty over any areas that need some repair.
4. Use sand paper or an electric sander (highly recommend this option) to sand the wall down to a smooth finish.
5. Clean the area thoroughly and check over the work. You may need to go back and re-sand certain spots. Then it’s ready for paint/next steps.

Before we painted, we installed some ready made panel molding onto the ceiling. In addition to being kind of an eye sore, the slope ceiling takes up a big portion of this space. I wanted to find a way to add some character + style with high impact and the addition of the molding did the trick beautifully. Not to mention, it adds that Parisienne charm that I was trying to channel in this space.
Also, please wear safety glasses when using a nail gun (not like me pictures above)!!

The Reveal

Let’s get to the good part, right?
And I feel like I need to start with color. One of the things I love most about French style is the way they use color – effortlessly chic, warm and inviting without being too overwhelming. For the color in this space, I chose Dream In Purple from Valspar and its the most gorgeous shade of purple with grey undertones to achieve that elegant look.

Another highlight has got to the all the small space storage I managed to cram into this closet! haha. Not cram, but expertly fit. :) As usual, when I’m in need of storage solutions, I always head to the Container Store to check out their offerings. Those chic storage boxes are great for storing smaller items and the over the door rack was a perfect solution for all of my yarn!

I mentioned about my love of Nordic design and that is very apparent in a lot of the details you see on display. Several of the ceramic pieces – the pink vase and the blue tonal vase were items I purchased while in Copenhagen a few years back. Talk about eye candy!!

This little space is truly a dream come true for me. It’s a space just for me that really reflects where I am in my design journey. I just love it and I hope you do too.
