An Artfully Appointed Modern Home Office
There’s always a bit of added excitement when we get to work with returning clients—especially when they’ve built their own modern dream house and want us to help make it feel like home. One of the spaces we tackled as part of the project was this light and airy home office.
Our client was looking for a space where she could not only work, but also have a personal retreat for relaxing and reading. While it was a beautiful blank slate, overflowing with natural light and an expansive built-in desk, the room needed some added warmth, softness and color.
We love a good blank slate…
The design plan + a peek into our process
The stark white walls, overall bright lightness and high, angled ceiling were absolutely giving art gallery, which we loved. So when it came to the design we used that as a jumping off point—adding three long, floating wood shelves that would tie into the desk, provide plenty of space for displaying said art, and draw the eye up to better appreciate the height of that wall. We also added a muted blue dashed wallpaper to further showcase the ceiling height.
A curvy, sage-colored velvet loveseat, bold round mirror, circular drink table and extra-large donut-shaped pendant light serve to balance the otherwise angular room. The overstuffed loveseat and plush-yet-washable rug also help with acoustics (dampening any echo), which increases the comfiness of the space.
Starting with an adorable Charley Harper seal art print and colorful metal mobile our client already had, we sourced a variety of art for display on the floating shelves, wall-mounted bookshelf and walls.
Ceramic geometric wall art and vases sprinkled throughout the room add dimension and texture. A collection of illustrations, paintings and art prints with limited color palettes creates a look that feels collected without coming off as cluttered.
Add a few plants here and there…because how could you not with that much amazing light flowing in?! (Just disregard the fact that the largest one was fake. Gasp!)
As we finished styling and shooting this cultured and cozy home office, Ty (the feline ruler of the roost) strolled in to take in the new space, soak up a few sunbeams and offer his final approval, too.
